How Cellulite Products Work

Cellulite cream is one tool in the battle against cellulite. Cellulite is something that appears, mainly in women, over time. It is not related to weight, but does involve fat. It is caused by the bulging of the connective tissues in fat cells against the skin. It produces a dimpled look to the skin and usually occurs around the thighs and buttocks.

There are many cellulite products on the market. Each product differs in what active ingredients it contains, how it works and the effects it actually has on cellulite. To get the most out of a cellulite product a person needs to understand how they work and exactly how cellulite is formed and how it can be treated.

Cellulite is caused by the expansion of fat cells. Fat cells do not easily expand and contract. Once they have expanded they may never return to their normal size. When a fat cell is expanded it is close to the skin and therefore appears as cellulite. Cellulite is most often seen on women because the tissues and fat cells are far less resistant and less durable than in men. Cellulite can occur due to water weight gain, too. The actual cause of cellulite is not known, but it is known that being overweight plays very little into the development of fat cells. This is because everyone stores fat, even those who are not overweight and at any time a fat cell may become expanded, even without excess fat, causing cellulite.

Cellulite products aim to treat the problem from the outside. In general these products work to make the skin look better, not fight the actually cause of the cellulite. Cellulite products work to hydrate the skin and bring more blood flow to the skin, both of which increases the plumpness and appearance of the skin. This helps to mask the dimpled effect caused by cellulite.

There are many different active ingredients used in cellulite products. Some use ingredients that have been used in medicine to help increase blood flow, like Aminophylline, which is used to open lung passages. Others use known drugs, like caffeine, to help increase blood flow. In general, though, all the ingredients work to increase blood flow, the difference is how well they do so.

Most of the time these cellulite products are harmless, but occasionally a person may experience an allergic reaction, usually mild like a rash or itching. The best way to use these products is on a constant, continuous basis. The label directions should be followed carefully in order to get the best results. These products provide a temporary solution so discontinuing use would cause the reappearance of cellulite.

Battling cellulite is an on going process. As research continues, new cellulite products are sure to hit the market. Each one makes its own claims as to its effectiveness. However, it is really up to the consumer to determine which product works best for them.
